Advanced Dental Bridge Solutions Using CEREC Technology
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge uses teeth adjacent to a missing tooth as anchors to support a single multi tooth restoration, that once permanently cemented, “bridges” the gap. It is basically at least 3 crowns that are fused together into a single restoration and once cemented stays in the mouth. Since flossing in between the bridged teeth cannot be accomplished, flossing under the bridge must be part of the oral hygiene routing to keep the gum tissue healthy.
At Downtown Dental Syracuse, our bridges are fabricated using Cerec technology. The majority can be completed in one visit whereas some will require two visits.

Bridges can be used to:
- Replace missing teeth.
- Prevent drifting of adjacent or opposing teeth.
- Allow for better chewing function and speech.
- Improve esthetics.
Frequently Asked Questions
1). How do I know if a fixed dental bridge is the right option instead of an implant?
A fixed dental bridge may be a good option if you have healthy teeth on either side of a missing tooth and prefer a non-surgical solution. Dental implants may be recommended if you want to avoid using adjacent teeth for support. A consultation will help determine the best choice based on your oral health and goals.
2). Will a dental bridge require altering my healthy teeth?
In most cases, yes. Traditional bridges require the adjacent teeth to be reshaped to support crowns that hold the bridge in place. Your dentist will review all options with you so you can make an informed decision.
3). How stable and secure does a fixed dental bridge feel in everyday use?
A properly fitted bridge feels stable and functions much like natural teeth. Because it is securely cemented in place, it does not shift or move like removable options.
4). Will a dental bridge restore my ability to chew normally?
Yes. A bridge helps restore your ability to chew by filling the gap and distributing bite pressure evenly, making it easier to eat comfortably.
5). How long does it take to get a fixed dental bridge?
Most traditional bridges are completed in two visits over a few weeks—one to prepare the teeth and take impressions, and another to place the final restoration.
6). Will I need to wear a temporary bridge during treatment?
Yes. A temporary bridge is typically placed to protect your teeth and maintain function while your permanent bridge is being made.
7). How long can a fixed dental bridge last with proper care?
With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, a bridge can last 5–10 years or longer.
8). How do I clean under and around a dental bridge properly?
Daily brushing and flossing are essential. Special tools like floss threaders or interdental brushes can help clean underneath the bridge and keep the supporting teeth healthy.
9). Can a dental bridge prevent my remaining teeth from shifting?
Yes. By filling the gap, a bridge helps maintain proper spacing and prevents neighboring teeth from drifting out of position.
10). Will a fixed bridge feel different from my natural teeth?
At first, it may feel slightly different, but most patients adjust quickly. Once you’re used to it, the bridge should feel natural when speaking and chewing.
